23 Things I've Learned By the Age of Twenty-Three.

Updated: Feb 19, 2023

Greetings twenty-three.

1. Change

Welcoming change, my comfort zone is what has held me back in the past. I can honestly say that I'm prepared to take risks, overcome challenges and gracefully embrace change.

2. Control

As cliche as it sounds, it's a simple truth: to control what I can control. Let go of what I can't, find alternatives when necessary, and breathe. Life is difficult enough, I must limit unnecessary stress as often as possible. I'm in the process of allowing myself to feel my emotions fully, but also be in control of them.

3. Energy

Focusing my energy and choosing how to respond to situations. I've learned that I'm powerful when calm and sometimes silence is all that's needed. I realize now, that I can no longer give my energy to everyone and each circumstance. I'm required to divide my energy into several things daily and using it to put into things that don't serve a purpose is inutile. Energy is precious.

4. Serenity

I'm currently in the process of regaining my peace, it's a priority. I understand the importance that it holds and how it is connected to the flow of everything else in my life. I will no longer allow the behavior of others to destroy my inner peace. What doesn't serve me most simply go.

5. Trust The Process

I'm currently in preparation mode and my responsibility towards myself is to be strategic. My focus is on executing effectively and efficiently while remembering to enjoy my journey. Finding balance and accomplishing goals while still enjoying my early twenties.

6. Speak Life

Replace negative thoughts and statements with positivity, the words that we speak have so much power. I'm learning to break the habit of speaking negatively toward myself and what's taking place in my life, no matter the situation.

7. Live In The Present

I'm someone who constantly thinks of the future in all aspects. However, I can no longer allow the thoughts of my future to completely take over the present. I had a habit of waiting for the perfect time to proceed, whether it was for enjoyment or taking the next step with personal goals. I've learned that there's no better time than now, to go for it.

8. Prayer

I want to improve and develop a powerful prayer life. I’ve learned to be specific with my prayer requests and intentional with manifestation. In the past I didn't know the importance of praying for the things that I want in detail, it matters. I've also learned to pray before making difficult decisions and to prepare what I pray for, I will continue to pray without ceasing.

9. Faith Vs. Fear

Fear has caused me to be stagnant at times. I realized that failure is inevitable, time is ongoing, opportunities are present and it's time to start. I've always had faith, even through the most difficult and frightening times in my life. I learned that fear and faith cannot coexist which made the fear that I allowed to take over, unjustifiable.

10. Solitude

Alone time, it's a necessity. I need time to myself for clarity, calmness, and to process my thoughts.

11. Creative Privacy

The start is crucial, I learned to no longer announce things prematurely. I've decided to show the process of my design journey and end products only. I mastered personal privacy at a young age, I applied it naturally from my mother. I recently learned that it also pertains to my dreams and life goals.

12. Self-Reflection

I'm in the process of learning and studying myself, which I believe is never-ending. I'm continually working toward being the best version of myself and it's exciting.

13. Self-Care

I'm learning to be patient with myself and to take care of my mind. I've learned the importance of self-care practices and that it should always be prioritized.

14. Work Ethic

I've learned to be my motivation and support system. To make it happen, no matter how long or difficult the process might be. I'm responsible for my desires in life and I can no longer wait on others or expect them to understand what I'm working towards.

15. Trust

I've learned to trust myself, including my ideas and ability. As well as being patient and treating myself gently through it all.

16. Grief

I've learned that there are different stages of grief, it never fully goes away but there are coping mechanisms that present themselves overtime. After losing three people who were apart of my growth and what shaped my childhood, I learned that grief is a process. I've experienced that pain three times, in different ways. Emotions must be felt, there's no way around it. A constant reminder that life is a gift and to express gratitude to those you love.

17. Being

To simply, just be. Allowing myself to be at ease and take breaks. "Wanting always interrupts being."

18. Wellness

I've learned to listen to my body and not take it for granted. My health and fitness goals have to do with my mindset and daily decisions. Meditating, eating healthy, and enjoying life - balance is key.

19. Solutions

I will no longer allow setbacks or indecisiveness to hinder my process. I'm now forcing myself to get comfortable with the unexpected or things going completely wrong in situations and working through it rather than getting completely overwhelmed.

20. Imperfections

Perfection is unattainable, accepting my imperfections.

21. Centering

I've noticed that the smallest things keep me centered even in the midst of chaos. Within my personal space, things must align in order for me to be productive. I set time aside daily for things that bring me instant calmness: The sky, early morning walks, specific playlists, viewing greenery from afar, drinking matcha in silence, etc.

22. Intuition

There are days in life you never forget, both good and bad. Following my mind, made a difference in a life or death situation. Since then, I have never gone against my gut instinct.

23. Transitions

I've learned that life transitions are often unexpected, and a result is new perspectives. I've come to realize the changes that occur during transitions will be for the better in due time.
